02. Who Is Your Audience?

As with almost everything in this course we want to start our documentation by thinking about who our end-users are going to be. Now I know you might be thinking, “well it's just an article.. there aren’t users in an article” and while it is true that an article doesn’t have users in a traditional sense, for our intents and purposes our users for the article are our audience members.

The audience members of your documentation could be future employers, other people in the VR industry, and potentially other groups that you may have mind.

For the purposes of this lesson we will be focusing on future employers as the audience members for our write-up.

With our future-employer audience in mind, let's think about some of the goals that we have for this documentation.

We want to show off our iterative process, so one goal should be to effectively communicate that we iterated based on things we learned from user testing. We want to show off the awesome stuff we can make. Let’s make sure to show that we have the skills to create a thoughtfully designed VR project
Not everyone has the time to read a huge write-up. Let’s create an easily consumable piece of documentation that doesn't take hours to read.

In regards to our last goal, this doesn't mean we can't be thorough - it simply means that we need to structure our documentation in a way which allows people can get an understanding of our work without needing to read every last word if they are pressed for time.
